December 2000 Armchair General's Review Our esteemed President

From the President:

Well it's the Holiday Season once again, and we're all in good cheer, especially with the resumption of our Tournaments again. While you are all shopping and decorating, and visiting with relatives and friends, remember to take time to thank any of the surviving WWII Veterans you know for their efforts in the War. I've met many of those Veterans in the last year, and am amazed at the stories they tell me. They are all heroes, courageous and humble, and above all were loyal to their country, whichever one it was.

This Review will be short, with just a few messages to pass along to you. First let me thak everyone for supporting IAAPA, and for the excellent work and ideas brought forth by everyone. I'm proud to be a part of the most dynamic, and competitive group of A&A enthusiasts in the World. I wish everyone good fortune in all their games, and that everyone learns a new maneuver, tactic or strategy that will help them become a better player, each time they pair up in competition. It's this competition, World-wide, amongst the very best strategic minds, that makes keeping IAAPA going a pleasure for me.

It is with regret that I must tell you that Tom, aka ErrntKnt has had to resign his position as editor of the Havoc. Due to personal life committments, his time is in short supply. His witty commentaries, and knack for making us laugh at ourselves, will be sorely missed. I thank him greatly for all his hard work, and wish him the best of luck with his career, and hope he'll have time to drop in for a game or two, and maybe to pen an article for us once in a while. If anyone would like to carry on his work, and write the Havoc, I'm sure we would all appreciate it. Please contact any member of the Legislature to volunteer.

A word about former members. I expect a new influx of members to rejoin at the start of 2001, mainly because at that time the Die Roller will again be for members only. Those former members will lose access, and will now have to decide whether to renew or not. If you have any games unfinished with them on January 15th, you may declare a win by forfeit. It simply isn't fair for you to keep your games on hold indefinitely, and time to move on and play some games against the other members. The non-supporting members will remain in the system, and will not be deleted, but rather marked inactive. This allows us to allow them back into the system without losing their history if they decide to return to active membership.

A word about becoming a Mentor. We have a program of mentorship, where you can volunteer to help rookies get started in IAAPA. You'll be helping them figure out how to use the many features, and compose their E-Mail turns correctly. A little advise and strategy discussion might help them along also. Once they've gotten going with things you can move on to helping another when you're ready. If you would like to help out some rookies, please contact mentors@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net to volunteer.

Comfy Chair Tournament procedure. We've improved our tournament procedures. You can now see how your bracket is laid out, and work your way through the tournament without waiting to be paired up. Check out the Tournament brackets on the web site for all the information you need, as it's updated regularly as games progress. You should be sending the tourney director your game numbers as you get your gamestart notices. Be sure to report the game results so the brackets can be kept up to date. Look for the special prizes and awards coming to the winners as well.

5th Annual Convention. That's right it's coming again soon. We're looking for a Host, in a great place, for this year's bloodbath. Please contact John at law@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net if you'd like to host the convention. He'll be compiling a list of sites for the legislature to select from very soon!

Now I present to you messages from your government members and their offices.

Senate Reports

REPORT FROM THE PRIME MINISTER - Michael (micwil) - webmaster@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net

A couple of minor changes to take note of in the last month...

We are restoring the Knight Errant position to the Legislature (where it was initially) and it will be the job of the Legislature to try and fill this position before January 1, to ensure the Havoc doesn't die.

We are adding a Minister at Large position to the Senate to keep the number of Ministers constant...stay tuned for who will be appointed to this position.

That's about it for administrivia for this month - have a good Christmas and a Happy New Year, and enjoy these special times with friends and loved ones - that's what all those REAL battles were fought to preserve, after all. To help get you into the holiday spirit, I'd like to include a little Christmas graphic John shared with me...

Looks like they need to blow off some steam playing Axis and Allies ... Happy Holidays All :)
Michael

REPORT FROM THE MINISTER OF LAW - John (JohnPin569) - law@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net

From the Law Office...

Scales of JusticeGreetings Fellow Warriors,

As most of you are aware the new rule page format went into effect since the last revue. From member feedback a few minor adjustments were made. It should now be complete and user friendly.

I have almost completed work on the FAQ sections. Look for them shortly.

As a reminder, we have started the process for selecting the location of the 2001 Annual Face to Face Convention. These conventions are a great way to meet fellow gamers and enjoy a weekend of fierce gaming activity. After an initial flurry the comments and suggestions have begun to taper off. If anyone else has any further comments or input for the Convention please send them to me as soon as possible.

I want to wish everyone a Happy Holiday Season and the best of luck in your games and personal endeavors.

Take care.

John

REPORT FROM THE MINISTER OF RECRUITING - Alan (Spud) - recruiting@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net

Greetings from the Recruiting Office.

October was a good month...16 recruits passed the hurdle and 5 stayed on as active members...please everyone welcome baldguy, spivo, Silent_General, Spiderfly and a renewal, Gamestar.

November has seen even more recruits pass the test (26) with 2 becoming active members so far....hopefully we can entice an even bigger percentage to stay on.

Other than that, not much to report.

REPORT FROM THE DEPUTY MINISTER OF LOGS - Eric (Raist) - logs@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net

The logs that have been coming in lately have been fairly good. There are only two areas that need working on.

1) Make sure that your log has both a gamestart, and a gamefinish report.

2) Make sure all of the turns are included. I have had several logs recently that were missing a few turns.

REPORT FROM THE MINISTER OF INTERNET OPERATIONS - Michael (Micwil) - webmaster@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net

Not too much to report, I will try and keep it short and sweet...

1) In response to some investigation by Tom, our former Chancellor of Stats, (stats@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net) we tracked down a 'glitch' in our rankings system which although not major, did affect some member ratings and rankings signficantly. I believe we have eliminated the error, however, as always if you have any concerns about your ranking or rating point total, please email stats@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net and once we appoint a new Chancellor, he will look into it for you.

2) With the help of a huge effort of the tourney department, the tourney area is now almost completely up to date, and from now on is being updated as results come in and are reported.

3) The Supply Depot now has a direct link in the vertical navigation menu on all pages on the site - we will soon be adding other products and items. Any suggestions as to products should be sent to any member of government for discussion.

4) As you likely are all aware, last month's Revue (and all future Revues) will be in HTML format on the web site - any feedback on the presentation is appreciated.

5) We have also made several improvements which are transparent to most members, such as further improvements in the recruiting script, which hopefully allow the Association to run smoother.

6) I would also like to report that through the meticulous efforts of the internet team, the dice server has been continuously functioning flawlessly since the move to the new server in February of this year. In addition, the games database continues to maintain lifetime records of all members (past and present), so that anyone who has become inactive can reactivate their membership in IAAPA and 'pick up' where they left off.

7) It should be known that our Paypal account now supports payments from 30 different countries (although non-US members do not get a signup referral bonus which can be credited to our account).

8) Thanks to my assistant Silex, there is now a trophy tribute page in the tournament area with some really cool graphics - take a look at them if you get a chance.

As always, I am open to any suggestions from the membership as to how to improve the Association. Regards, Micwil Prime Minister, IAAPA

REPORT FROM THE MINISTER OF TOURNAMENTS - Warren (Reddwarf) - tournies@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net

Hi all,

By now you would have seen my 2000 Fall Classic rd1 pairings and predictions. It is my intention to continue reporting stats and results, player comments and tidbits as this event unfolds. I'm not exactly sure where this will be shown, perhaps in the Havoc and/or the BBS tourney section, we will see.

This is my answer to the common question I kept reading about in the past, namely, what is going on with so and so tourney? when is the next round starting? etc. It also will allow more club members (and their exploits) to become more widely known to others perhaps promoting more games and discussions. I will also continue to maintain the other tournaments with regular updates in the tournament section on the web site.

And thats all folks! Oh, by the way did I ever mention about getting those tourney game numbers back to me at tourneys@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net?

rgds,

REPORT FROM THE MINISTER OF MEMBERS - Eric (Raist) - logs@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net

The Legislature has been active in getting a few motions passed last month. Some of these include;

- Approving the printing of IAAPA T-shirts
- Creading the position of Chancellor of Adjudication
- Having a slogan contest, that will be posted within the week

The Legislature is currently revising the policies on the reviews of mass emails.

If you have any suggestions about IAAPA, or have any other topic that you think needs to be brought up, feel free to email me at mentors@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net.

Thank you for your time

REPORT FROM THE MENTORSHIP COORDINATOR - Eric (Raist) - mentors@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net

The program is up and running, though a few more volunteer opponents would be helpful. Many of the new recruits that have joined IAAPA have taken us up on the offer of the free game, which is a good sign. It is too early to tell right now if this program will be a continued success, but I feel that it will be.

Thank you for your time.

REPORT FROM MORALE OFFICER - Warren (reddwarf) - morale@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net

Hello from the Morale Office,

I have a project that is ready to go except for the fact that maybe my target group is a little small right now. The project is called the IAAPA Academy and all I will say about it for now is that it involves tournaments exclusively for PVT's and RKIE's. Hopefully this concept will be up and running sometime early in 2001.

I do have one more project that I have only just begun to work on. It's a variant I call RECON! and hopefully I can find a couple of players to beta test my concept (perhaps I will report the game on the BBS) and if it proves a success then maybe I will host a mini tournament (This is something for the future)

Regards,
Warren (RedDwarf)

Closing comments:

And now a final word;

I will be mailing out your membership cards in January, along with your year end ranking certificate. It's absolutely imperative that you make sure I have your current mailing address. This will also function as our annual membership verification check. In the past we've done these at random, but we wanted to be sure we have 100% accurate information. You'll receive a verification code number in your envelope. You will have to e-mail the number to me at president@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net by the end of January to remain active. This helps us prevent false, duplicate aliases, thus keeping our playing community honest. If you don't update your address, you won't get the verification code number.

One last bonus for those of you who have read this far - here is a complete list of our current ranks and ratings (so that we can keep track of promotions and demotions from month to month. To see the list, CLICK HERE.
