January 2001 Armchair General's Revue Our esteemed President

From the President's Desk:

Wow another year has already flown by! And a new Millennium too! I'm glad to report that IAAPA is set to continue through the year 2002. I'm sure that everyone is anxious to start the year off with a solid victory and a fresh new strategy, so get involved in a game or two, and keep up the robust participation in our tournament play.

Rankings have been recorded for everyone, and they'll be listed on the site soon. Just like most things need maintenance, so does our mailing list, so be sure to keep you address up to date with us. You'll miss the annual mailout and any prizes from tournament participation if you can't be mailed to

Comfy Chair Reminder on Tournament procedure. We've improved our tournament procedures. You can now see how your bracket is laid out, and work your way through the tournament without waiting to be paired up. Check out the Tournament brackets on the web site for all the information you need, as it's updated regularly as games progress. You should be sending the tourney director your game numbers as you get your gamestart notices. Be sure to report the game results so the brackets can be kept up to date. Look for the special prizes and awards coming to the winners as well.

Now I present to you messages from your government members and their offices.

Senate Reports

REPORT FROM THE PRIME MINISTER - Michael (micwil) - webmaster@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net

Nothing much to report - I am currently collecting a list of presidential candidates for the upcoming election and also working with the Legislature to restock the Legislature with offices for the upcoming election.

So far we haven't had any volunteers to take on the Havoc, so the position will be filled in the upcoming election as Havoc Editor will be a new Legislative position.

That's about it for administrivia for this month - hope you had a great Christmas season...

Michael

REPORT FROM THE MINISTER OF LAW - John (JohnPin569) - law@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net

From the Law Office...

Scales of JusticeGreetings Fellow Warriors,

I hope everyone had a good Holiday Season. It has been fairly quiet in the Law Office.

Work is about completed on a basic FAQ section. It should be posted soon. For the sake of clarity the new section will contain simple yes or no answers. A detailed answer may be found by looking under the appropriate heading in the Rules Section.

We are currently reviewing sites for the 2001 Convention. Although I plan on finalizing the site selection soon, it is still not too late to send in any suggestions that you may have.

I have received a few questions lately concerning the board geography. The north and south edges of the board do not touch and are not adjacent.

When trying to determine "what touches what" in that pesky area on the bottom right side of the board you may consider the New Zealand sea zone to extend "beneath the blowup boxes" all the way to the right side of the board.

The clarification map that is on the site is under the FAQ section, which is currently not available. It does a very nice job of depicting the sea zones that are adjacent. Look for it to be available soon.

Take care and hope to see you at this year's convention.

John

REPORT FROM THE MINISTER OF RECRUITING - Alan (Spud) - recruiting@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net

Greetings from the Recruiting Office.

The Final Hurdle is still a popular destination for many web surfers...had 31 new recruits pass the test in December and 16 more in January so far, with 10 members becoming active (plus 1 from November for a total 11 new members since the last revue)...welcome to Patrick4, Likkimon, General_JD, Wild2000, Crozier, Terminator2, ringwraith, Wil, Coot, Timothy and Soljourn. We also have a few more straddling the fence, soon to join.

We in recruiting would welcome any suggestions from the members on ways to increase the number of new recruits who stay on as active members...feel free to email any suggestions to me at recruiting@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net

REPORT FROM THE DEPUTY MINISTER OF LOGS - Eric (Raist) - logs@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net

Logs are a little backlogged right now, due to the fact that I was gone for a month, but given a week or so, everything should be cleared up.

Just a couple reminders:

1) Make sure to include both a gamestart and a gamefinish notice with your logs.

2) Try to send in the logs ASAP. It makes things more difficult when people send in a big group of logs, instead of sending in one at a time.

Thank you.

Eric aka Raist

REPORT FROM THE MINISTER OF BBS OPERATIONS - Terry (BlackWatch) - bbs@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net

Two new forums added this month:

Dice Grumping Forum - a place to share your woes about the evils of the dice roller and the little gremlins that run it. Feel free to tell your sad tale - you are sure to receive LOTS of sympathy (but no rerolls). :)

IAAPA Academy - a forum dedicated to the needs of new members and their ongoing tounaments.

REPORT FROM THE MINISTER OF INTERNET OPERATIONS - Michael (Micwil) - webmaster@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net

A fairly uneventful month...here's all that comes to mind...

1) We now have an IAAPA Academy Page and links to the Academy from several key pages on the site..

2) We have also been steadily increasing our server usage - we are now up to nearly 125 MB - however, with some negotiation on the part of government the cost of the server will not be increased, but will remain at its current level.

3) The dice server is once again password-protected for members only - as a side note, during the period of 'free access' usage of the server was approximately 50% for IAAPA registered games and 50% for other games in other clubs or unidentifiable. In addition, some cosmetic improvements on the dice roll reports were implemented in early January - which should improve the readability of the dice server generated text.

As always, I am open to any suggestions from the membership as to how to improve the Association. Regards, Micwil Prime Minister, IAAPA

REPORT FROM THE MINISTER OF TOURNAMENTS - Warren (Reddwarf) - tournies@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net

Please see the IAAPA Battlefield Revue, posted on the BBS and soon to be available on the web site.

REPORT FROM THE MINISTER OF COMMUNICATION - Gil (Tusk) - who@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net

From the desktop of the Minister of Communications...

To pre-empt the intruduction of newly elected officials in the upcoming election; it was conceived to come up with a new members guide to the legislature. This will aid in the actions of the IAAPA legislature. This is presently under construction and should be done by the time the new house convenes. There will also be an effort to let the public know exactly what the office being run for entails such as responsabilities and what is expected of the office winner.

On another note;are you having doubts about the club?? About the dues?? About weather or not it's worth it??? I invite all of you to read some of the OLD club archives. (url below) Go ahead and read them. You will see just how far we have come and how much better the IAAPA is now. Remember; since our move, the roller has NEVER been down.

Here is the URL to the old club archives. http://www.axisandallies.net/public/periodicals.html

REPORT FROM THE MINISTER OF MEMBERS - Eric (Raist) - logs@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net

The Legislature has been pretty quiet this last month, due mostly to the holidays. We have approved the use of our funds to pay for the server for the next year. As well, the slogan contest is still running. Get your submissions in!

The coming months will see some major changes to the Legislature, with changing of positions, and the up coming elections.

Stay tuned.

Thank you for your time

REPORT FROM THE CHANCELLOR OF ADJUDICATION - Peter (Boromir) - adjudication@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net

Greetings to all, and Happy new Millennium.

I have been active in this vaunted position since late November. A group of adjudication panelists have been coerced - thanks guys! :o) - into participating. Protocols have been set, and I am awaiting my first bit of real work, the conclusion of Round 1 of the Fall 2000 tourney.

I am grateful for the opportunity to help out the IAAPA, and wish to encourage others to do so. Thanks to everyone in this great club!

- Pete, Chancellor of Adjudication

REPORT FROM THE STATISTICIAN / RESEARCHER - Olyn (Sohoa) - squire@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net

From the desk of "Squire Sohoa"

We need a slogan...

so far we have recieved entries from only 20 members . That is correct 20 out of 125 guys. I have too ask you (those who did not reply) Why?? What does a slogan mean to a club? Everything is the answer.

The accolades aside we need your wit and your participation.

Here are some of the slogan already sent in . I just know that some one out there can do better and reap the rewards that come with it.

"Today is a good day to die"
"A Challenge of History"
"IAAPA Putting the Fun back in War"
"IAAPA The Club For High Adventure"
" Where the best come to play A&A "
"IAAPA :Not just a Gameroom"
" IAAPA: mind war"
"World at War In Peace"
"IAAPA - MENSA with an attitude"
"IAAPA: Masters of strategy and Tactics, but Slaves to the Dice Gods"

Send in your thoughts and the winner will have his slogan posted in a special place with all of the accolades it would deserve. He will be given an IAAPA T-shirt and opportunity to play any member from a list of selected opponents (The list will be chosen by Sohoha). This list will contain some of the top rated players and some members of government. And as a special bonus you get an extra ipc to put in with your bid. If you don't win the bid, then you get an extra IPC for the Allied country of your choice. This game will also be posted on the BBS for everyone to watch, with possible commentary as well.

***---Extra Bonus

Our President (ToddVomit) has said he will play the winner in a game, and his bid will be $1 for Germany.

The only requirement is that we must get at least 40 slogans from 40 different members.

Any suggestions can be sent to squire@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net Thank you for helping make your club a better one

Things are continuing on at a healthy pace. There is a continued interest in the program by new recruits.

To date there have been 12 trial games set up.

We are always looking for opponents for the new recruits, or for mentors to show them the ropes. If you wish to do either, please contact me at mentors@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net.

Closing comments:

And now a final word;

We will be mailing out your IAAPA care package in the next month or so. It's absolutely imperative that you make sure we have your current mailing address. This will also function as our annual membership verification check. In the past we've done these at random, but we wanted to be sure we have 100% accurate information. You'll receive a verification code number in your envelope. You will have to e-mail the number to me at president@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net within a month to remain active. This helps us prevent false, duplicate aliases, thus keeping our playing community honest. If you don't update your address, you won't get the verification code number, and you will lose access to the IAAPA community.

One last bonus for those of you who have read this far - here is a complete list of our current ranks and ratings (so that we can keep track of promotions and demotions from month to month. To see the list, CLICK HERE.

May all your games be difficult and challenging this year, and your play improve with each new game.

ToddVomit
President of IAAPA
