IAAPA Armchair General's Revue April 28, 1999

First off I'd like to say thanks to everyone who has been submitting logs and reporting your gamefinishes. We have nearly complete compliance, that's outstanding! Keep up the good work everyone!

Secondly, the programming efforts are finally completed, and the ranking routines are working. Please take a look at them, and make a printout of your record. All those rating points are based upon when a game was begun and ended, so if you could double check you own dates, by looking through your logs, that would result in more accurate calculations for everyone. I did that the other day myself (I have over 80 games now), and it only took me about 2-3 hours of skimming logs to read the start and end dates and jot them down. Send your date corrections to stats@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net

If you know any of the details of the game such as bids, and ICs, win type, techs, etc. please include that in your message as well, and we'll get it entered for you.

When looking over your ratings remember these two factors.......the number shown after each player's alias is the rating they had at time of start.........the number in parenthesis after the game number is the effect upon your rating based on the outcome.....

Since all games don't finish in the order they began, the numbers will not show a sequential rise or drop, you'll have to look at them in order of finish date......

If you see any oddities, or have proof to correct any errors of any type, send them along to stats@REMOVETHISaxisandallies.net

3rd Annual convention in Fredericksburg VA May 28-31, 1999. Make your plans to attend, be sure to register in the Axis and Allies block of rooms for the special rate and to help us compute how many rooms we have booked. We get the Warroom free if we have enough guest rooms sold. Call in your reservation today!

It's being held at the:

The WyteStone Suites of Fredericksburg
4615 SouthPoint Parkway
Fredericksburg, VA 22407
Hotel Phone/Reservation Line is (540)891-1112

Apparently many of you have not mentioned the IAAPA in your making of reservations. Please call them again to make sure they place your reservation in our block of rooms, since this guarantees your rate, and helps us get credit towards the Warroom.

On to rankings and ratings again. Some have been wondering why their ratings fluctuate even when no games are reported finished lately. This is because the system is dynamic and whenever we correct someone's data, it automatically corrects all the related data. So I ask everyone to check out your game list and make sure we get the right dates. Once the dates are all corrected, the fluctuation should end.

Welcome aboard to Oliver who will be screening logs and uploading them. Also welcome to Clyde who will be handling stats. Also Pete who will be processing our new recruits. These jobs are vital, and their volunteer efforts are greatly appreciated.

CD-ROM Sanctioning.

I'm looking for some member input regarding possible ways to work out sanctioning the CD-ROM play in the Zone. JohnPin569@aol.com is heading up a committee to study the problems of game number assignment and completion verification. Any interested opinions should be directed to John. We really want to get this aspect handled, and everyone is wanting it too, so don't be shy with your suggestions.

Local Chapter Kits are ready except for the posters. Everyone should visit the Member Services area and make sure your address and phone number are still accurate, so that we can see how best to divide up the regions to give everyone a nearby local chapter. You don't need to affiliate with the local chapters, but we are hoping to help you all get together for live face to face play. These games will be sanctioned, and count towards your rankings.

That's about it,

See you all next month with a full report of the action from the con. I'm considering switching to a MS-Word based newsletter and sending it via e-mail instead of this format, would you all like that?

President of IAAPA
