GroeFaZ - Minister of Tournaments
Lately, I received a proposal for a new tournament which I would like to present to you. I leave it to the Membership to decide if this tournament will be held or not. If enough of you vote for this proposal, I will gladly host them. If you are interested, and if you have comments and ideas how this idea may be enhanced,s send me short email to tourneys@axisandallies.net!
This is an expansion on the "Tossing the Gauntlet" thread of the BBS.
I would imagine that a lot of players in the club have a beef with one another
for some reason or the other. In the days of chivalry, a knight would challenge
the offender publicly to a duel. This will be the same type of a venue. Players
will issue their challenges to a particular officer in the club. Each challenge
should have a statement of grievance...something along the lines of " So-and-So is a tech-rolling dog
and couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag without 'em." Or "That
victory in the thus and such tournament was a fluke. I hereby challenge
_____________ for the honor of ____________. Let the dice roll as they may and
the outcome of this game demonstrate before the eyes of all, who the real
champion is..." This officer would peruse the challenges and grievances
(perhaps with input form a panel) and select the most heatedly entertaining
from the lot. This challenge would then be posted on the BBS. While the person
challenged would certainly get the opportunity for rebuttal, they are almost
certain to accept the challenge or face disgrace in declining. Each round could
be posted using the "TV" mode as seen in IAAPA TV. At the end of each
round, the combatants could submit one comment. Something like "Take
That!" or "Your maw wears army boots."
It must be stressed that this idea is in no way
meant for any single individual or to cultivate more "bad blood."
In a romantic sense...like a "knights of the round table" challenge
I (Alias) challenge _______to defend the honor of....(person or rule or)
I (Alias) challenge _______ to avenge my honor stemming from...
I (Alias) challenge _______ for the honor of claiming the title Champion
etc. etc.;
I'm just thinking out loud here, but it's an idea the can sprout branches.
Knights of the Round Table Tournament...What's a round robin format of play?
Will it work? Who's "honor is to be defended?"
I think it's how much the players are willing to "Role play" in an opening
dialogue that might make for a unique tournament, full of competative spirit
and interesting reading on the BBS in we publisize it right. Good Havoc
reading, No?
Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen and welcome to the match of the Day: the
battle for Arnhem Bridge! My name is Dwight D. Eisenhower and next to me sits
Erwin Rommel. We are reporting directly from the trenches… Erwin, perhaps you
can tell the audience a little bit about the two commanders which meet in this
final round of the 2002 Summer Open: A Bridge Too Far?
Of course, Dwight! On the left we see Nieles, one of the most feared opponents
around. In the landing zone he met a veteran, Spud. After being able to secure
the landing zone he was confronted with Einstein, the most experienced
commander of all, who defended Wilhelmina, the second objective in the
Operation. It seems as if Nieles warmed up after those two matches… Both,
Ralf31 and cnty9047@, were unable to stop him. So he finally made it to
Nijmwegen. No one else but the Top of the Pops himself, Lord Byrons_Brigade,
waited for him. Unfortunately personal reasons made it impossible for
Byrons_Brigade to duke it out with Nieles, and Nieles advanced to the final.
How about Scottly, Dwight?
Scottly… yeah… his way was not very comfortable, either. Tough guys tried to
hinder him from making it to the finals… the Emperor ShenFung was the first
victim. He was followed by Komp, TELINTEL and Frogman10. Even mighty ArAmesh,
before whom many tremble, fell prey to the brave Scottly. It will be
interesting to see who will still stand when the dust settles…
Now we have some short ad’s… stay tuned and see the Clash of Titans…
In this fine tournament, which was started concurrently with the Football World
Championships in Japan & Korea, 32 players met. The tournament was divided
in two phases: in the first phase the players were put in groups of four. Each
player played each other once and awarded points for a victory. The best two
players of each group made it to the second phase, the final round which is a
single elimination tournament.
The first finalist is already determined: it is Novi, who chose to
represent Italy. In the ongoing semi-final cnty9047@ (Poland) meets limboguy
(Argentina). Would this be football the results would be clear… Let’s wait and
see who will make it to the final!
So far all players made it from France (Round 1) to England
(Round 2) and now most are in the Pacific (Round 4), having conquered Africa
(Round 3). In the Japanese bracket one player, Kaizen, is waiting to contest
Russia. He has to wait a bit until it is clear who will be the one challenging
him, MolotovCocktail, Pericles or Byrons_Brigade.
The German bracket has four players in the 4th round. They are cnty9047@,
Kieranbren, Hoquista and HoganS (who kicked out the Minister of Tournament. You
can only get rid of the curse which strikes you for doing so by signing up for
the next 12 tournaments :).
This year’s Combat Pro and Veterans Classic have 48
participants in total. The 16 players fighting for the Combat Pro title are now
playing in the second round. We already saw the first surprise as Shenfung was
able to kick out the favourite, JnMLasater, a hardened vet from many fights and
high ranked in another A&A club. So far only Nightwing made it into the
semifinal, who is patiently awaiting the arrival of the final three players.
The Veterans Classic is full of high class players and there are some very
interesting matches going on right now… ArAmesh is playing against Sephorin,
Elind meets Blackwatch and Ralf31 tries to overcome good old Einswine. Most
players are still in the 2nd round. It will be interesting to see who will
prevail.
It was not long ago that the heroes which swore to destroy the ring of power left the Shire. But the Fellowship already broke apart as some fell sway to the power of the ring… It is not yet clear who will make it to Mount Doom. There are some very interesting combats going on. Like AATorpedo vs. Glorfindel, both being Top 30 players for a very long time. Stay tuned for more information…
