Here it is again, the most underated A&A publication of
them all, the IAAPA Battlefield Review. Not exactly a periodical more like a sporadical
but still dedicated to bringing you all the club tournament results and scuttlebutt
behind the scenes.
The 2001 Summer Open Safari theme
seems to have awakened a frightening desire in Silex for Karaoke........

______
BEST PERFORMANCES OF 2000 _______
I have compiled an informal
list of the best performed players of 2000 thus far. The list is performance based.
The most important criteria being tournament wins. (ie- best performance takes
precedence over games won, for example KBell has won the most games but he has
yet to reach a final in 2000 where Rewstr and Komp have both contested a final).
As Rewstr has won the only completed tournament of 2000 he tops the list however
KBell may jump ahead as he is still participating in the late stages of a couple
of events still being contested.
This list is just an UNOFFICIAL guide
to the best tournament performers of 2000 and first made its appearance in the
August edition of the Armchair revue, some place changes have occured since then
and here is the latest standings.
Best of 2000 season so far....
1.
Rewstr
2. Komp
3. KenBell
4. Razor1010
5. JBell49
6.
AxisSpec
7. Buzz
8. roseandmike
9. Raist
10. Herr_Schmidt

1999 Fall Open
The championship final is now underway
Final game: Frogman10 vs HighCmmdr
Frogman10 is contesting his first IAAPA tournament Final whereas HighCmmdr has
won a convention tournament. Good luck guys!
2000 Fall Classic
** note: numbers within ( ) are byes **
Semi Final (able): KenBell vs
(Micwil or Boromir)
Ken has had a great season with a 14-1(1) record and
is currently 3rd on the 2000 best performance list but is almost certain to move
up the list as he is still contesting three Semi Final's out of four tournaments
started.
With a 4-3 record in four tournament appearances the Fall Classic
is Micwil's best 2000 tournament performance and a final appearance in this event
will see him make the season's 10 best players list.
His QF opponent
Boromir has played just the one tournament in 2000 and has a 2-0(1) record. A
final appearance likewise will see Boromir leap into the top 10 list.
Semi Final (baker): Raist vs JBell49
Raist, 4-1(1) season record and JBell49,
6-2(1) season record are contesting the second semi final and can both improve
their places on the top 10 list just by making the final.
2000 Summer
Open
Semi Final (able): Buzz vs Razor1010
Buzz, a talented
player with a 5-2 season record in three tourneys takes on Razor1010, 6-1(1) season
who stopped JBell49 contesting his second 2000 season semi by defeating him in
rd4.
Semi Final (baker): roseandmike vs KBell
roseandmike has
a 4-0 record in his only tournament appearance of 2000. Ken is playing his second
semi final of the season.
Millennium Tournament
Semi final
(east v west): KenBell vs (WarlockLH, dandeman or Levahl)< 3 semi's for Ken in
2000!
Semi final (north v south): note: north winner advances to final
KBell and AxisSpec both won their QF games in their respective brackets but sadly,
as you all know, Tom (AxisSpec) has passed away. His SF opponent (north bracket)
will be advanced to the final.
North Bracket
Herr_Schmidt has
won through to the QF stage. His record for 2000 is 4-2(1) in two tournament appearances.
Henrik , 4-2(1) in three tourney appearances and UberRalph , 4-1 in two tournaments
are contesting for a spot in the QF's against Herr_Schmidt
West Bracket
In his only tournament for 2000 WarlockLH has performed superbly with a 4-0 record
(including a win against Rewstr) just sits out of the best performers list of
2000.
Dandeman , 7-2 season record in three tournaments and Levahl , 3-0
in one tournament, make up the rd4 pairing who are contesting for a place against
WarlockLH.

2001 Summer Open Safari
rd1 in progress.

The inaugural IAAPA Team SuperLeague season has really caught the imagination
of the participants with some great team names as well as some great competition.
Points - As well as 2 points for a win, teams also receive 0.1 point for each
win as the Axis.
Rating - If the situation arises where a tie breaker
is required (i.e. - two teams finish the regular season equal 1st) then adding
together all of the rating points of both teams winning games will determine which
team will end the season top of the standings.
Prior to the season commencement
each team added up the combined ratings for each team member to determine which
Division their team would be entered ie - Field marshals were rated 1st, Exec
A's 6th, Engineered Victory 1st (in div B) etc....
Div A (pre season rating)
1. Field Marshals (HighCmmdr, NobleKnt, Rewstr)
2. Kamikaze Squadron Reunion
(JBell49, KenBell, WarlockLH)
3. Prairie Panzers (Herr_Schmidt, Raist, Spud)
4. Divine Wind (Buzz, RedDwarf, Sephorin)
4. The Warrior Fathers (Cnty9047,
Frogman10, Leone)
6. Executive Assassins (JohnPin569, Micwil, Toddvomit)
Div A standings (mid season)
1. Kamikaze Squadron Reunion 3-0 (2 in progress)
tot: 6.2 pts
2. Executive Assassins 1-0 (4 in progress) tot: 2.1 pts
3. The Warrior Fathers 1-1 (4 in progress) 2.0 pts
4. Prairie Panzers 1-1
(4 in progress) tot: 2.0 pts
5. Field Marshals 0-1 (5 in progress) tot: 0
pts
6. Divine Wind 0-3 (2 in progress) tot: 0 pts
KSR are comfortably
leading Division A, while minnows Divine Wind have yet to stir up even a slight
breeze at the bottom of the ladder with no points from three completed rounds.
The Panzers sit outside the top three by a slightly lower rating than Warrior
Fathers and the Exec A's have a toe hold on second place thanks to an axis win
in rd1 courtesy of the Prez himself ToddVomit.
The Field marshals have
yet to open their points account and need to prove that all the pre season hype
about their ability (mainly coming from the Field Marshals themselves) is justified.
As far as individual performance go there have been no multiple game winners as
yet but we have a long way to go till the end of the regular season.
Div
B (pre season rating)
1. Engineered Victory (BlackWatch, Boromir, Hoquista)
2. The Blitz Brothers (General_J.D, roboprep, Starchild)
3. Triple Entente
(HoganS, Stimpy, Tusk)
4. Cross of Iron (Ngadla, Diecaster, Steiner)
5.
Der Generalstab (Arminius, Glorfindel, GroeFaz)
6. The Insurgents (Atulla,
EtherealWarrior, normanoliver1)
Div B Standings (mid season)
1. Der
Generalstab 3-1 (1 in progress ) tot: 6.3 pts
2. Cross of Iron 3-1 (1 in progress)
tot: 6.2 pts
3. Engineered Victory 3-2 (0 in progress) tot: 6.1pts
4.
Triple Entente 2-3 (0 in progress) tot: 4.2 pts
5. The Blitz Brothers 1-1
(3 in progress) tot: 2.0pts
6. The Insurgents 0-3 (2 in progress) tot: 0 pts
Der Generalstab lead a very competitive Div B with only 0.2 pts seperating 1st
from 3rd. It looks like most teams are taking advantage of the bonus 0.1 point
for an axis win as often as possible which could make the difference between playing
in the post season finals or packing their bags for home.
BlackWatch and
Steiner are both two thirds of the way to an individual award needing just one
more win each during the regular season to become eliglible for the Combat Badge.

Fall Classic Round 4 - Baker Bracket
Game 8565 - Raist vs frogman10@
After the first round, things were
looking quite interesting. Russia took UKR, Germany took it back. Germany took
AES, and killed most of the navy, but UK took AES back. Russia stacked Yakut,
so Japan went West instead, taking CHI with 2 INF, SIN with 2 INF, 1 ARM, and
IND with 1 INF. However, this is when the oversight happened. When it came back
to Japan's turn again, NOV was stacked with 5 INF, 1 ARM, 2 FTR, SFE and YAK were
picketed, and the rest was stacked in KAR. The oversight came in the form of leaving
both KAZ and RUS mt. So on J2, the single ARM in SIN rolled into Russia. The Allies
were unable to overcome this oversight, and conceeded on UK 4. Just goes to show
that even the best of them make mistakes sometimes. Too bad it happened in this
game though, as it was looking to be quite interesting.
I've heard
old legends about this happening but i've always thought that it was just a story
to tell young A&A players as they huddled around the gameboard on dark, stormy
nights. Who would have thought it would ever happen to an experienced player like
Frogman!.
# 8576 Hoquista (LT) defeats Scottly (CPT) rd1 2001 Spring
Classic
comments by Hoquista
"Practically all of the Dice rolled the
Axis way for this game contributing to the early victory. What sealed the deal
was a trn, bb, 3 ftr, bmb vs. 7 trn, bb fleet off of WSp SZ. A ftr, bmb returned
to tell the tale. With only 1 allied trn available and the Germans parked in Kar
and the Japanese in the Kaz, Novo, and Eve, Scottly conceeded. Nice opponent with
quick turns! "
A German naval victory after turn one?. 21 gun salute
to Admiral Hoquista for this great victory for the Kreigsmarine.

8581 Newdylan (Rookie) defeats DeBruce (LT) rd1 2001 Spring Classic
Game
comments by NewDylan
" Japan's capture of an IC in India the first turn proved
to be the crucial factor of a freewheeling game on both sides.".
Its
great to see guys play the Allies with some variety (even though the Axis went
on to win with a Magic 84). Thumbs up to DeBruce for his employment of an Indian
IC and to NewDylan for capturing it
_______ EDITOR'S
OPINION _______
Realism
A&A is not a "hardcore" WWII
strategy game which is part of the overall attraction, for me anyway. Its relatively
simple but still provides enough strategic variety to keep me coming back. I sometimes
shake my head in wonder when people start on about the lack of realism in A&A.
It is not meant to be an accurate facsimile of those events and besides there
are plenty of other games out there that do a better job in the realism department
anyway.
I would describe A&A as more of an abstract strategy game loosely
based upon WWII, kind of the same as it is with chess, a game which uses well
known figures (Knights, Bishops etc) but has little to do with medieval warfare,
c'mon, whoever heard of mobile castles sliding along the hills and valleys?.

_______ BANZAI AMERICAN STYLE _______
The most decorated unit in
US military history was one formed with Japanese Americans. Despite being forced
into camps during World War II, many of the Japanese Americans wanted to prove
their patriotism.

The British listened to all of
the US's transmissions via the Atlantic cable, secret and otherwise. They regularly
tapped US communications, making them a greater security problem than the Germans
