New Player Page

Welcome to the Axis and Allies Club New Player Page. On this page you will find information about our on-line Axis and Allies Club.

What is the Axis and Allies Club?

The A&A online club was originally the A&A club on America on Line but as the gateway to the internet began to open up, membership from other online services and directly from the internet began to increase and today makes up a sizeable part of the club. The current membership of the club is more that 300 members whose talent level ranges from very beginners to some of the best players in the world! Our administrative staff helps set up games and gamemasters, runs bi-annual and invitational tournaments, writes a bi-weekly club newsletter, maintains seasonal and lifetime rankings, and arbitrates on player disputes. Some of the programmers in our group have created shareware utilities that aid in the play of A&A such as Phillip Hall's Odds Calculator (Windows) and Chris McDermott's Board Utility (DOS), that are available for downloading.

Who can be a part of the club?

Anyone who has access to internet e-mail is welcome to join and become a part of the club.

Does it cost anything to join?

Just whatever it costs you to send e-mail to your opponent and the GM of your game, other than that the club is free!

What sort of house rules does the club use?

The club tries to stay close to the original rules, a few changes have been made to try to balance the game, but nothing too drastic. The official changes to the game are as follows:

Bidding - Both players submit a bid of of units or IPC to thier GM and the player who enters the low bid gets to play as the Axis, starting with the units / IPC that they bid for.

Unlimited groups - The rules state that you may only have as many "groups" of units on the board as you have plastic playing pieces, limiting the number of IC, AA, etc. that you can build. Our club allows you to build as many as you like, regardless of how many plastic pieces you have.

How fast do you play?

Players usually submit turns every day or so, though there are players who can play multiple turns in a day and those who prefer a slower pace. There are even players who will play Americon style, submitting turns every 15 minutes! Tournament play is under a strict schedule, though, be sure to check the tournament time rules when you enter.

How do I find new players to play against?

Your first game will be set up for you against another club rookie, after that you can enter a tournament that will give you an opponent until you win or are eliminated, or you can check the player pool for opponents hungry for a game. After your first game you are also welcome to enter your name into the player pool.

How does the club stand on certain rules ambiguities?

As you may have noticed, Milton Bradley makes fine games but in the case of A&A, some rather odd rule books. New players should check out the club rules on the website.

What sort of tournaments are played in the club?

Currently there are several tournaments run by or involving the club. There are the Spring and Fall Single Elimination Tournaments (SETs), the Open, Online Tourney's and the Americon 2 day tournament.
