ITSL (IAAPA Team Super League) RULES

1. LEAGUE STRUCTURE

  • The league is comprised of divisions of 5 or 6 teams each.
  • In placing the teams into divisions the ITSL Committee will take into account the teams' performances in previous seasons. The rank and rating of individual team members will be a secondary consideration. New teams will generally be placed in the lowest division and will have to work their way up.
  • Teams play each other twice over the league season for a total of 8 to 10 games per team (and 2-4 per person).
  • Teams play each other in "Home" and "Away" fixtures. The advantage of playing at home is that the away team must nominate their player first, allowing the home team the advantage of choosing an appropriate player in response
  • When playing an opposing team, instead of every member of each team participating, each team nominates one member only to play that "fixture".

Example:

Round 1
Team A (John, Fred, David) the home side
vs
Team B (Mike, Joe, Ken) the away side

Team B emails the members of Team A with their rd1 players choice, Ken. Now the members of Team A discuss between themselves which player will face Ken. Team A decides that John will play. (perhaps John is of equal or higher rank or has previously played Ken).

Ken and John will then contact each other, get a game number (being sure to specify "tournament" "ITSL Season 2" game-type during the challenge process), and proceed to play their game.

This constitutes Round 1 between Team A and Team B. The victor sends the result to the Minister of ITSL at game's end.

*** Definition ***
Regular Season games: rounds 1-10 are regular season games in which all 5 or 6 teams
of a division participate.

Post Season games: The top two teams of a division, determined by the results of the regular season, play the Championship Final series.

***************

  • The SuperLeague season extends for approx 12 months. The regular season finishes after 10 months. Don't forget that team players will only be required to play a maximum of 2-4 games over this 10 month period.
  • While there is no time limit for the post season final series it is hoped that the championship will be decided in around 2 months.

2. ADJUDICATION

Should any regular season games exceed the 10 month time limit they will be subject to Adjudication (see the web site tournament page for a full explanation of rules regarding Adjudication).

(see also: How Adjudication affects individual awards section)

3. THE CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL

  • The top two teams play off in the Championship Final. The team that finishes top of the league becomes the "home" side.
  • Each team member plays a Championship Final game. This means that there is a 3 game Championship series. The home side chooses the 3 matchups.
  • Teams must win two out of the three games that make up the final series to claim the SuperLeague Championship Trophy.

4. SEASON FIXTURE

The season fixture will be released at the beginning of the season. Each round will have a start-by date of approx 3 weeks per round. This means that 30 weeks after season commencement every team should have no rounds left to start.

5. PLAYER ELIGIBILITY

The IAAPA TEAM SuperLeague is restricted to PVT's and above. Hey, sorry about that Newbies! But it does give you added incentive to rise in the IAAPA ranks.

6. THE TEAMS

  • Team names: provided that they are not offensive, teams can be called anything that the members desire.
  • A Captain must be nominated to act as the figurehead for the team.
  • Teams are made up of 3 players. Each team member can play a maximum of 4 games in the regular SuperLeague season and 1 game in the post season (Championship Final). If the players' division is made up of five teams, a single person can play a maximum of 3 games.

7. TEAM STRATEGY

While a player is encouraged to seek advice from his team, we hope that this will be the extent of the help that they receive and not a case of a more senior or dominant player monopolizing the team and directing strategy so much that they are effectively playing all the games. As there is no way to police such practice, it is up to the teams themselves to ensure that this does not occur.

8. FINDING A TEAM

i) A Forum in the IAAPA BBS (message boards) has been created as a meeting place for players to form SuperLeague teams.

ii) The Minister of ITSL will also provide players with the help necessary to find / create a SuperLeague Team.

9. REPLACING TEAM MEMBERS - THE SUBSTITUTE

  • Teams may replace players throughout the regular season with substitutes providing that two original members remain and bearing in mind that all substitutes must not be of higher rank than the players that they replace.
  • Once replaced the original player may not rejoin the team for the rest of that season (championship final series included).
  • Substitutes may participate in the championship final only if they have played at least one regular season game.
  • The League committee reserves the right to dispense exceptions to teams with unusual or special circumstances.

10. SCORING SYSTEM

2 points for a win.
0 points for a loss.
0.1 percentage point for a win as Axis (See Tie Breaking section)

11. TIE BREAKING

i) In all situations where a tie breaking method is required (i.e., two or more teams with the same points at the end of a season) the first method employed will be awarding teams 0.1 point for each win as the Axis during the regular season.

ii) Should Method 1 fail to resolve the tie then method 2 will be used: List the team's winning regular season games. Add together all of the rating points gained in these games where the highest combined rating points becomes the deciding factor.

12. TEAM FORFEITS.

  • A team may play the championship final with only two players if a team member drops out of the final series (after the regular season has finished). In this situation only two final games are played (the third game is already to be considered as a win for the opposing team).

13. DISCIPLINARY BOARD

ITSL members that committ any inappropriate action at any time during the season will be called upon to explain their situation to the Disciplinary Board. Penalties incurred will be issued on an individual or team basis. Offenders may face a League ban depending on the extent of the offense. Players who do not contact the board when requested face an automatic ban from the League for a period determined by the board.

14. INDIVIDUAL AWARDS

As well as the SuperLeague Championship Trophy, players are awarded medals for the following acheivements:

Combat Badge (CB) - Winning 3 games in a single season (post-season games do not count).

Bronze Star (Br/Star) - Winning 5 consecutive games (this may take two SuperLeague seasons and post-season games DO count).

Silver Star (Sil/Star) - Winning 7 consecutive games (Championship Final games are included).

Congressional Medal of Honor (CMA) - Winning 10 consecutive games. (Championship Final games are included).

Victory Medal (VM) - awarded to each team member of a Championship winning team (even if the team lost the final) .

Purple Heart (PH) - Awarded to each member of the Championship team.

15. HOW ADJUDICATION AFFECTS INDIVIDUAL AWARDS

The awards are based on league results. If the adjudication goes against you, than it counts as a loss not just in the team standings but in your own personal league record. So no medal if you lose by adjudication but win in the end. A good incentive to get your game turns out!

16. USING TEAM NAMES FROM SEASON TO SEASON

Teams can continue on from season to season using a particular name as long as there is at least one member from the previous season that is present in the current season.

Example:

Joe@, Fred@, Sally@ are in a team called "GI Joes" in season '01. In season ' 02 the "GI Joes" Team has Sally@, Warren@, and Alan@ as members, only Sally remains from the original "GI Joes" team. In Season '03 the "GI Joes" Team has Warren@ Alan@ and Terry@ as members - Sally@ the original member from season '01 has dropped out but Warren@ and Alan@ from season ' 02 are still present.

17. RETIRING A TEAM NAME

Once a team cannot be linked by a prior season's member then the team name is retired and cannot be used by another group of players. The team name may be revived again by any of the former players at a later time.

18. INQUIRIES
