Tourney

From the tourney front lines
I heard the news today oh boy, Byrons_Brigade had won the war... Tim is our latest Tournament Champion, defeating Boromir in the 2001 Summer Open Safari Final. This make Tim our 15th or 16th (perhaps 17th??) individual IAAPA champion, I did have a tournament summary list in the tourney section but it disappeared when an update was made using an old copy of the page without the summary included. So I am not sure how many individual champions we have had offhand but when I get the time I will put that summary back up and find out.

A tough test
I have been working on a new tournament format called the Campaign League and I must say that the pages look great and I would like to thank myself for working so hard on them, well done RedDwarf, actually I couldn't have done it without Silex, Micwil. Thanks also to BlackWatch, Spud and HighCmmdr for working on the rules.

Campaign League season 1 is from Aug 1st 2002 - Aug 1st 2003 so you have plenty of time to complete a full campaign or just a theatre. The pages can be found in the Tourney Info section of the website

Campaign League features include:
Six game format spread over a 12 month season
Three distinct bidding areas (theatres)
Six medal types, eight medals in total
League leader board
Hall of Fame

Tournament player of the year (TPOTY)
Yes there is such a thing, I believe I mentioned it last year on the BBS, this award will be given to the most successful tourney player of 2002.

Here is the scoring system:
1 pt for a Quarter Final
2 pts for a Semi Final
3 pts for Runner Up
4 pts for Winning a tournament

In case of a tie breaker being neccesary I will probably assign a 0.1 bonus point for each game won as the axis. If this is not enough then the sum ratings of defeated opponents may also be taken into consideration.

Only the four regular tournaments that are held annually will be included in determining the tourney player of the year award. These are: (Masters Invite, Veterans Classic & Combat Pro)*, Spring Classic, Summer Open and Fall Classic.

* note that these three tourneys are all rank restrictive thus can be considered to be one big tourney in the context of determining the TPOTY award.

Mentioned in dispatches
Thanks Novi, you never need to be sent out a pairing notice if your opponent is already waiting for you. You have always used the tournament brackets as they were intended, you really make my day.

That is all from the tournament front lines, until next time, good luck on the battlefield
